May’s Mes­sage from Our CEO

Every day, an old man walked the beach with a pail, pick­ing up starfish that had washed in by the tide and throw­ing them back into the sea.
 
One day a young boy stopped the old man and asked, ​“Why do you throw the starfish back? It doesn’t mat­ter! They will only wash up on the shore again tomor­row.” The old man picked up a starfish out of his pail, threw it as far as he could into the sea and replied…
 
​“It mat­tered to that one.”
 
At my first All Staff Meet­ing at KYC, I shared this mes­sage with my new team. Recent­ly, one of our Board Mem­bers put this same mes­sage on my desk, not know­ing that it was the mes­sage that start­ed my time at KYC. Over the last three years, I have got­ten to know many of the clients, staff, vol­un­teers, donors, and part­ners who sup­port KYC and the kind­ness of the old­er gen­tle­man in this sto­ry embod­ies the spir­it I have found across our orga­ni­za­tion. It has been my dis­tinct plea­sure to lead this orga­ni­za­tion and know that this deeply engrained com­pas­sion will con­tin­ue at KYC long into the future. The Board of Direc­tors and Lead­er­ship Team for KYC are incred­i­bly ded­i­cat­ed, pro­fes­sion­al, and car­ing. I have com­plete con­fi­dence in their abil­i­ty to lead the orga­ni­za­tion through this tran­si­tion with­out miss­ing a beat.
 
In just over a month, KYC will be host­ing its annu­al 5K in Busse Woods on June 9^th. As the largest fundrais­er of the year, it’s crit­i­cal that we raise our goal of $80,000 to sup­port KYC’s pro­grams and ser­vices. We’re halfway there, but we’ll need all of you to sup­port our efforts to achieve this mighty goal. Encour­age your friends to not only donate, but cre­ate their own pages to fundraise for us as well. Every dol­lar gives life-chang­ing and life-sav­ing care to peo­ple in our com­mu­ni­ty.
