Com­mu­ni­ties for Pos­i­tive Youth Devel­op­ment Coalition

Ken­neth Young Cen­ter’s Com­mu­ni­ties for Pos­i­tive Youth Devel­op­ment (CPYD) Coali­tion is a col­lab­o­ra­tion of com­mu­ni­ty part­ners who share the com­mon goal of pos­i­tive youth devel­op­ment, includ­ing a lifestyle that is free of alco­hol, drugs, and oth­er sub­stances and pro­motes diverse recov­ery sup­port ser­vices across the lifes­pan. The com­mu­ni­ty coali­tion mod­el is an evi­dence-based strat­e­gy to address pub­lic health issues through coor­di­nat­ed efforts. By using local data and a strate­gic plan­ning process that is inclu­sive of our part­ners, includ­ing youth and per­sons with lived expe­ri­ences, the coali­tion sup­ports com­pre­hen­sive strate­gies to address those issues that are most rel­e­vant to the com­mu­ni­ty and to fos­ter pos­i­tive youth development. 

The coalition’s goal is to reflect the diver­si­ty of our com­mu­ni­ty and to have a strat­e­gy in place to ensure that all com­mu­ni­ty voic­es are being engaged. Learn more about our CPYD Coali­tion by con­nect­ing with us!

LGBTQ+ Cen­ter

KYC’s LGBTQ+ Youth and Young Adult Cen­ter is a safe space for youth and allies to learn about self-expres­­sion and iden­ti­ty, while build­ing strong inter­per­son­al con­nec­tions with oth­er LGBTQ+ youth (11−17) and young adults (18−24). With events through­out the month, our LGBTQ+ Cen­ter pro­vides enter­tain­ment, edu­ca­tion­al oppor­tu­ni­ties, and social activ­i­ties. Teens and young adults can come to enjoy cre­ative arts, movie or board game nights, yoga/​meditation, com­mu­ni­ty ser­vice activ­i­ties, and more. These events pro­vide learn­ing oppor­tu­ni­ties about inclu­sive, pos­i­tive, healthy behav­iors, and oppor­tu­ni­ties to col­lab­o­rate on lead­er­ship activ­i­ties. Designed with the feed­back pro­vid­ed by the LGBTQ+ ther­a­peu­tic group that was con­duct­ed at Ken­neth Young Cen­ter, the LGBTQ+ Cen­ter is focused on youth-led, youth-empow­ered programming.
