We provide a variety of capacity-building and professional development opportunities for individuals, organizations, and businesses in the community.
Kenneth Young Center is proud to be a Regional Substance Use Prevention Integration Center for Cook county (Non-Chicago Region). We also provide training on the following topics:
Mental Health Awareness Training (MHAT)

We purpose to reduce mental health stigma and train people in Palatine, Schaumburg, Elk Grove Village, Bloomingdale, Hanover Park, Elgin, Wheeling, Maine, Dundee, and Barrington in Mental Health First Aid for Youth and Adults. We offer Mental Health Frist Aid Training for Adults, and Mental Health First Aid Training for those working with Youth. Both trainings are offered in English and Spanish.
Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. This training gives you the skills to reach out and provide initial support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and help connect them to appropriate care. AMHFA is a blended course 2‑hour self-paced online course, and a 5.5‑to 6.5‑hour, Instructor-led training.

QPR (Question. Persuade. Refer.) Training, responding to someone in suicide ideation.
QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer – the three simple steps anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. People trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help. This is a quick 60 – 90-minute training.
LGBTQ+ Compentency and Inclusivity Training
Work with our facilitators to create interactive workshops that fit your professional development needs related to gender, sexuality, sexual health education, and related topics.
Our team can also provide consultations to ensure your workplace is LGBTQ+ affirming for staff and clients, LGBTQ+ affirming school practices, inclusive curriculum, and more.
Overdose Prevention Education and Narcan training
Our Recovery Support Services team provides community overdose education for individuals and groups. Participants in the session will learn how to identify and respond to an overdose, how to administer Naloxone, and rescue response. Each participant will receive complimentary doses of Naloxone.
