2020 Adopt a Family Drive

Each holiday season, Kenneth Young Center organizes an Adopt a Family drive to provide our clients with extra support and holiday cheer. Last year, generous community members provided gifts to more than 600 kids, adults, and seniors facing an especially difficult time or isolation during the holiday season.

This year, as we continue to face challenges due to COVID-19, many of us have felt especially disconnected as we practice social distancing.

Read these client stories to see firsthand the meaningful impact your gift makes.

A Safer Way To Adopt

You can make the holidays brighter for a family or individual in our communities.

This year’s Adopt a Family drive will primarily be a gift card drive so that gifts can be sent to clients through the mail in time for the holidays. Gift cards are truly the gift that gives twice — recipients are gifted the autonomy of choice in addition to a gift that is personally meaningful.

How It Works

Gift cards can be purchased through KYC’s website for your safety and convenience. KYC will purchase a gift card on your behalf and send it to a client in need. You can make someone’s holiday from the comfort of your couch!

If you prefer to shop for a gift card in person, please contact Jessica to be connected with a client that you would like to‘adopt.’ After purchasing a gift card of their preference, please make arrangements for your gift card to be received at Kenneth Young Center’s Elk Grove Village office by December 7th, 2020. To ensure that each gift is equitable, please purchase gift cards in a $25 amount.

Participate as an Organization

Individual community members are welcome to participate in this program on their own. We also offer a rewarding team-building opportunity for local companies, faith groups, and social organizations to participate in this meaningful holiday program.

Become a Captain

Do you think your organization would enjoy this program? Become a Captain! Captains are the point people at each organization who volunteer to coordinate their group’s participation alongside KYC staff. Captains recruit individuals from their group to participate and ensure that their organization’s gift cards are received by KYC by December 72020.

Captains will help by:

  • Working with KYC staff to estimate the number of clients that you think your group would like to adopt.
  • Sharing the list of adoptees with your group’s participants (each gift card should total $25).
  • Keeping track of which participants have purchased gift cards for their adoptees and ensuring that all gift cards are brought or sent to KYC by December 72020
