Illinois Network To Organize the Understanding
of Community Health
What We Do: Kenneth Young Center's InTouch Program brings community organizations into contact with resources and tools needed to prevent abuse of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. Prevention is the process that builds the capacity of individuals to promote healthy environments, lifestyles and behaviors. The goal of prevention is to help people live their lives in as healthy a manner as possible. The Illinois Department of Human Services (DHS) funds the InTouch network. In order to provide statewide assistance, DHS has strategically divided Illinois into 18 prevention service areas throughout the state. Our project is administered by Kenneth Young Center. InTouch serves communities in north/northwest suburban Cook County including the following townships: Elk Grove, Evanston, Hanover, Maine, New Trier, Niles, Northfield, Palatine, Schaumburg, and Wheeling. As part of our prevention commitment, InTouch is involved in training and seminars, roundtable discussions, advocating social policies, media awareness campaigns, developing informational materials, performing needs assessments, and assisting in the coordination of drug free activities such as Project Graduation, Safe Celebration and Snowball/Snowflake events. Prevention programs like InTouch are vehicles by which communities, families and individuals can develop the skills and strategies to build healthy individuals and community well being.
